Now Virtual Classroom By IIT- B Via EDUSAT


Here is good news for thousand of students who could not make it to the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs). IIT-Bombay is going to launch its classes online very soon. Starting January 2008 it will broadcast its live lectures through Edusat, the satellite catering exclusively to the  Education field.

Once the project is in place, students of any engineering institute will now not only benefit from real-time access to IIT-B .but also can interact with resident teacher at Powai

and ISRO has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to transmit the lectures to any of the 1,500 engineering colleges across India which is keen to access the service.

Not only the whole nation, any south east Asian country like Bangladesh, Pakistan, Nepal, Sri Lanka or Bhutan would also be able to view the lectures by tuning in to the same frequency.

The IIT Bombay - ISRO virtual classroom project has received energetic backing from corporate leaders and technocrats. Former TCS vice chairman F C Kohli has described it an opportunity for engineering students "to avail of the IIT experience", which would be surely be enriching.

Now, IIT Bombay students will have to allow with a change in venue to suit the project. Lectures in all 13 subjects will be held in a new studio established on the Powai campus from where information will be sent out via the satellite and can be picked up by the receivers in engineering colleges across the country.
