IN MEDICAL SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY (2008-2009)
Applications
are invited for admission to the 3 years (four semester course work & one
year Project) Masters of Medical Science & Technology (MMST).
ELIGIBILITY:
MBBS degree (recognized by Medical Council of India) with minimum of 55% marks
in aggregate and having studied mathematics at +2 level (even as additional
subject). Seats are reserved for SC/ST candidates and persons with disability
as per Govt. of India rules. Reservations for OBC candidates would be
implemented as and when government orders for the same are issued.
SELECTION:
The selection is strictly based on the performance of the candidates in an
objective type of written test of 2 hours duration. The candidate needs to
answer 120 questions of one mark each (no negative marking) out of which 75
questions are assigned to the MBBS syllabi. The remaining questions are
equally distributed to cover the syllabi of +2 level Physics, Chemistry and
Mathematics. Candidates qualifying in the admission test will be called for
counseling at IIT Kharagpur before final selection.
ASSISTANTSHIP:
All the candidates admitted to this program are offered an assistantship of
Rs.10,000/- per month. The students should maintaingood academic performance
and should provide service to Dr. B.C. Roy Technology Hospital of the
Institute for 6-8 hours per week to be eligible for the assistantship.

School of Medical Science and Technology (SMST), Indian Institute of
Technology Kharagpur offers a 3 years post graduate program - Masters in
Medical Science and Technology (MMST) for MBBS graduates. This programme
imparts engineering skills to medical professionals and train them for the
state-of-the-art medical research in frontier areas of Medical Imaging,
Molecular Imaging and Image Analysis, Biomaterials and Implants, Biophysics,
Medical Statistics, Telemedicine, Biomedical Instrumentation, Early Detection
of Cancer, Immuno-technology, Recombinant DNA Technology, Biomedical
Simulation, Wound research and so on. After the completion of this course the
medical professionals become well equipped to fill the void that separates the
medical sciences from advanced technology.Apart from the existing 3 years
interdisciplinary Masters Program in Medical Science and Technology (MMST) for
medical doctors and MS and PhD programs in Medical Science and Technology, the
school has introduced an M.Tech program in Medical Imaging and Image Analysis
(2 years) from 2007.

The Clinical Domain The students of MMST serve as Medical Officers rendering
OPD and Emergency services at BC Roy Technology Hospital - a hospital with
Intensive Care Unit and housing research labs for Medical Imaging,
Instrumentation and Telemedicine, which provides the clinical acumen to the
students for interdisciplinary research. The students will be exposed to
different kinds of Imaging Modalities - Microscopic and Macroscopic and will
work on advanced Image Processing Systems.
Eligibility for MMST:
The eligibility criterion for admission to MMST students is MBBS Degree (recognised
by Medical Council of India) with a minimum of 55% marks in aggregate and
having studied mathematics at +2 level (even as additional subject) or from
any recognized Open University. Seats are reserved for SC/ST candidates and
persons with disability as per Govt. of India rules.
Mode of Selection :

awarded to all the eligible students of MMST who maintain good academic
performance, and render clinical services in B.C. Roy Technology Hospital of
the Institute for 6-8 hours per week.
Application Procedure:
MMST 2008 application is to be submitted only by an ONLINE process (internet
based) by accessing the website http://gate2k8.iitkgp.ernet.in/mmst/page5.html
from 4 February 2008 till 29 February 2008. The candidate should first pay the
Application Fee by obtaining a Demand Draft drawn in favour of IIT Kharagpur
on any nationalized bank payable at Kharagpur, West Bengal. The draft details
are require while filling up the ONLINE application form after successful
submission of data. The printed form, with candidate's signature and
photograph pasted at appropriate place, and the Demand Draft must be sent by
speed post so as to reach by 7 March 2008 to The Chairman, GATE, IIT
Kharagpur, Kharagpur - 721302.
Following additional
documents should be mailed along with the printed Application Form :
1.Attested copy of SC/ST/PD certificate (if applicable)
2.Attested copy of MBBS Degree (recognized by MCI) with mark sheet as a proof
of obtaining a minimum of 55% marks in aggregate.
3.Attested copy of proof of having studies Mathematics at +2 level (even as an
additional subject)
Application Fees:
Rs. 1000/- for General Category and Rs. 500/- for SC/ST Category.
Admission Test:
The admission test is of objective type to identify the aptitude of the
candidates for a program like MMST. The test is of two hours duration and held
between 10:00 A.M. to 12:00 Noon on Sunday, 20 April 2008. The
candidate needs to answer 120 questions of one mark each (no negative marking)
out of which 75 questions are assigned to the typical MBBS syllabi. The
remaining questions are equally distributed to cover the syllabi of +2 level
Physics, Chemistry & Mathematics.
